Holdsworth, Randle 10th in shattering Bathurst 1000
Tickford Racing endured a devastating Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on Sunday, where the high finishing car was that of Lee Holdsworth and Thomas Randle (No. 5 The Bottle-O Ford Mustang) in tenth position.

Brothers Will and Alex Davison (No. 23 Milwaukee Racing Ford Mustang) battled an imbalanced race car back to 11th at the chequered flag.

The race's lowlight came on Lap 122 when Cameron Waters (No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang) and Chaz Mostert (No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Mustang) collected each other at The Chase, triggering a Safety Car. The pair were battling over effectively third place, and both had been well in contention for the podium prior to the incident. However both were able to have their cars repaired and finish the race, Mostert a lap down in 16th, and Waters 13 laps down in 22nd. Mostert also broke the Mount Panorama race lap record at 2m04.76s.

Supercars returns to action in two weeks with the second leg of the 2019 Enduro Cup at the Gold Coast 600. On-track action begins Friday, October 25, with 300-kilometre races on Saturday and Sunday on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

No. 5 The Bottle-O Ford Mustang

"I felt like we did everything we could to bring home a result. It was looking good for a top three there, but (Fabian) Coulthard held us all up and the advantage we had with fuel was no longer after that, so that really screwed our race. I thought the guys did a brilliant job with strategy, Sammy (Scaffidi, engineer) gave us a good car, so really pleased with the performance of the team. And also Tom, he did a really good job. He was fast, he was mature, so really stoked with how he drove, and looking forward to Gold Coast. A top ten is not the way you want to finish a day where nothing really went too far wrong. The potential was there to be on the podium, so I guess we'll take that positive and press on to Gold Coast."

Thomas Randle
"I think it was a really good race, the car was quite strong. I was happy with my stints, and we got lucky with the driver laps. The Safety Car came out at the right point for me, I think I had done 55 laps when I pitted for the driver change, so that worked out well. Lee drove really well, and unfortunately we just got screwed over with Coulthard backing everyone up. Other than that I think a top ten is a solid result from where we qualified, but I think there was a lot more potential, which hopefully we can show at Gold Coast in a fortnight's time."

Cameron Waters
"I got back in the camper van and necked a beer to take the edge off, but it still stings. No words at the moment to describe that feeling, but I'm absolutely gutted for the boys. I've never seen them work so hard and prep so hard for this race, we had a fast car, and we should have been on the podium, one of the steps. I really feel bad for those guys that put in all those hours to end up in the gravel trap. In the situation it happened it's pretty disappointing."

Michael Caruso
"It's hard to find words after the week that we've had because it's been such a positive week. The car was very fast, the team have done a brilliant job, and Cam drove brilliant all week, so to come away with nothing is hard to swallow. Good thing is we have a couple weeks and then have a crack at Goldy."

No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Mustang
Warm Up: 2m05.63s, 8th
Race 25: 16th
Chaz Mostert
"Obviously I'm shattered. You know, it's the biggest race of the year, the event we look forward to most, and the race we want to win most. It was so tight up the front all day, we were just setting up for the last stint, had a good run on Cam, and just got crossed up and we hit. I didn't need to pass him, shouldn't have tried, and it ruined both our races which is the worst part. I'm really sorry to Cam and the whole team, we should be celebrating a podium or two right now, but we're empty handed."

James Moffat
"Undoubtedly it's disappointing, obviously we had a really great car, Chazzy was wheeling it out there, we were certainly in line to go for some silverware, and unfortunately he and Cam got together. It's really tough losing a potential result like that, we're all pretty down after that. But we'll regroup for Goldy, obviously we went well there last year so hopefully we can pick it back up again in a couple weeks."

No. 23 Milwaukee Racing Ford Mustang

Will Davison
"Just a very disappointing day to be honest. I'm just glad to bring the car to the finish line and not in the wall. It was tricky from the word go, we just struggled with the balance and had some braking issues, so it wasn't a fun race. We had nothing go against us, a few times I thought we were getting ourselves back in the race at the end, just to have Safety Cars and everything happening at the wrong time, and then we were just battling to the end with some cars who were on fresher tyres. Very, very tough day, but I'm looking forward to bouncing back at Gold Coast."

Alex Davison
"I don't think much of it, P11. I hate this place sometimes, it's the best race track we come to, it's the best event, one of the best motor racing events you'll go to your whole career but it's just hard. You need so many things to go right to get a result and not many things to go wrong to screw your day up. We just didn't get things right, the car probably wasn't quick enough, we chased the set up all weekend a little bit and probably didn't chase it hard enough. We had a big braking imbalance with the car, which then warped the rear brake rotors, and the team did an awesome job changing them, it's not an easy task to change the rears. I guess we ducked when we should have weaved a few times with strategy, and we just didn't quite have it today. But we came out with a straight car, Will got some points for the championship, and we'll keep it pinned for Gold Coast."

Tim Edwards, Team Principal
"This place can be so brutal. We've been incredibly strong all week and really felt we were a chance for at least a step on the podium, if not the top one, but that's how quickly things can unravel when they go against you. To have two team cars come together like that, again, is incredibly frustrating. Chaz took it on the chin and apologised to the guys, but even as he said, words can't make this easier. I'm gutted for the crew who have worked so hard to make us as competitive as we are. To come away from here with nothing is a real gut punch."

Should Supercars change the kerb strike technology?
