Supercheap Auto Racing scores top five at Sydney SuperNight
Under the lights at Sydney Motorsport Park, Chaz Mostert (No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Falcon FG X) claimed a fifth place finish in Saturday's Sydney SuperNight 300, his seventh top five of 2018 and fourth consecutive top six finish.
Tickford Racing's remaining entries struggled across the 77-lap, 300-kilometre race, with Mark Winterbottom (No. 5 The Bottle-O Ford Falcon FG X) placing 15th, however the combined runs of Mostert and Winterbottom vault Tickford Racing back into third in the team's championship after ten of 16 events.
Cameron Waters (No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Falcon FG X) and Richie Stanaway (No. 56 RABBLE.club Ford Falcon FG X) both found themselves a lap down, finishing 19th and 21st, respectively. Waters' race was hampered by significant front tyre degradation, and further damaged when he was handed a 15-second time penalty for a driving infringement after a major lock up of the front tyres caused him to make contact with Car 14 on Lap 14. Stanaway suffered a bent suspension piece on the right rear of his car early in the race, which progressively got worse as the race continued.
Tickford Racing returns to action in three weeks at The Bend SuperSprint, the inaugural Supercars event at the newly constructed The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia. The event will be the 11th of the 2018 Supercars season, hosting Races 22 & 23 across the August 24-26 weekend.

"The race itself was a great spectacle, and I'm really proud to have a big race in my hometown, but I'm disappointed with how the car was going in that race. Great for the fans, all the fireworks and stuff, but we've got a lot of work to do on my car. We're not doing what Car 55 is doing even though we're all a lot more similar now. There's one car that's performing better than the others, we need to work out why and move forward."

"Obviously it was a tough night. I got a good start, was able to pick off a few cars straight away, then I just made a mistake, locked up the fronts and ploughed into the back of (Tim) Slade. I felt bad hurting his race so early, but we copped the penalty from it, and ultimately found ourselves a lap down at the Safety Car because of it. The car was okay, we just struggled with front tyre degradation all night, and we weren't really in much of a competitive position in the second half of the race. It's one to forget for us, but we'll come back for Tailem Bend and have a go."

"It was a crazy race, but a good result for us. Anytime you get a top five in this championship it means you're running right at the pointy end. Definitely good to run with the front guys, it's the same thing as QR, it's good to run with them because you can find what your weaknesses and what your strengths are. It's another good event under our belts, qualifying didn't quite go to plan for us, we should be a bit further to the front, but fifth's a good result. The boys did a good job, strategy was tough out there, big field spread as well, so we just did what we could."

"It was a pretty tough race. I went forward three spots with a damaged suspension, obviously it wasn't ideal from pace or anything, but it was pretty much damage limitation from Lap 6 onwards, with damage to the right rear suspension. We kept turning ride height into it at the stops, but it just kept bending more and more throughout the race, so we kind of masked the issue on a fresh tyre, but obviously you're using it so much more to do good lap times, so you'd struggle a lot more at the end of the stint. It was just a long race for us because of the damage, so we've just got to move on and not get too upset about it."
Tim Edwards, Team Principal
"It's good to see Chaz and the Supercheap Auto crew up where they deserve to be, but it was a tough day for the rest of the team, which is disappointing after the way yesterday went. Obviously it's good to have Chaz up there, we know we're doing something right, we've just got to find out where we're lacking on the other cars and try to get them forward. Some things are out of your control and tonight was no different, but we'd help ourselves a lot by picking up those few tenths and having all four cars further up the grid."
